La Tour de Vesvrein Neuvy deux Clochers |
|
Among the vinyards of Sancerre and Menetou-Salon, in the northern part of the Cher department, there stands a twelfth century fortified house, on the site of a 10th century castle.
A visit to this site is a must for those interested in the history of, and architectural heritage of the Pays-Fort. A property of the municipality of Neuvy-Deux-Clochers since 1974, it was listed as an historical monument for the first time in 1993, while the surrounding buildings were listed in 2008.
Before a complete restoration of the monument, which we hope will soon be planned, some securing work allows visiting of the inside,
including the upper parts, since 2008.
Thanks to interim preservation work completed that year,
visitors have been able to visit the interior of the tower and it is hoped that a complete restoration of the entire site can be undertaken soon.
Visitors are also permitted to explore the grounds and cellars of the tower free of charge,
and a footpath allows them to follow the course of the tower’s former moat.
The Association des Amis Tour de Vesvre, (The Friends of the Tour de Vesvre) holds the monument in trust
for the municipality and is responsible for the day-to-day running of the site.
